Alzheimer Secure Unit

Offering a Supportive and Therapeutic Environment

Experts estimate that as many as 65% of older adults have some form of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. Our nursing and rehabilitation center secured unit specializes in the unique challenges experienced by these residents.

Caring for a person with Alzheimer's disease at home is a challenging task that can become overwhelming at times. Each day brings new demands and opportunities as family members adapt to changing levels of ability and behavior. At some point you may need to consider long term care for your loved one who is experiencing Alzheimers or other disorders.

Mission De La Casa offers a warm, caring environment in our Alzheimer's Care Unit, where we help residents to function at their highest possible level while enhancing their quality of life. Our home like environment includes a secure outdoor garden that allows our residents to freely explore the area on their own, without risk of wandering away. This unit features a large living area and natural light from large windows in each room. Structured activities include exercise programs, art and music therapy as well as supervised outings.

Residents who are unable or unwilling to attend out of room activities are provided one-to-one programs by our activity staff. Residents who have Alzheimer's disease and have difficulty in group settings are often responsive to one on one interventions using soft, soothing music. Activities are designed and provided specifically for our residents in the secured unit.

In addition to various activities for your loved ones, we offer:
  • RNs, LVN, Certified Nurse Aides, and Certified Restorative Aides
  • Specially educated staff to meet the special needs of dementia residents
  • Activities specially designed for individuals with memory impairment
  • Secured patio and courtyard with outdoor seating
  • Religious services offered in house
The mission of the activities department is to provide residents with a variety of recreational and leisure experiences that are similar to their interests and life-time habits. Our Activities Director meets with the resident shortly after they move into our residence and assesses their preferred daily activities.

The activity department arranges for our residents to attend community outings on a regular basis, usually in a small group and transported in a wheel-chair accessible vehicle, or by wheel chair to one of our close-by venues. Outings include shopping trips, lunch at a favorite restaurant, picnics at a tranquil setting, museum tours, or an evening at a special event such as Cirque de Soleil.

The priority of our activity department is always the resident, with a primary goal of promoting and preserving a positive and healthy quality of life.
